USB Device Security: Don't Plug Just Anything Into Your Computer

Found a flash drive in the parking lot? Got one as a gift at a conference? Stop! A USB device is one of the fastest ways to introduce viruses and spyware into a corporate network.

Why is it dangerous?

An "infected" USB device can run automatic commands the moment it's connected, steal files from the computer, or remotely take control of your keyboard.

How to handle it correctly?

  • 🚫 Never connect a device you found or received from an unknown source.
  • 🔍 Scan before opening: Connected a USB? Right-click it and select "Scan with antivirus."
  • ☁️ Prefer the cloud: Instead of transferring files by hand, use a secure link via OneDrive or Google Drive.
