First Aid for the Internet: The Magic Commands

Internet is connected but sites won't load? Browsing terrifyingly slow? Before you call your ISP, here are 3 actions that fix 90% of common network issues:

1. Clearing the address "memory" (DNS Flush)

Sometimes your computer remembers an old address for a site that has since changed. This command refreshes everything:

ipconfig /flushdns

2. Resetting network settings (Winsock Reset)

If your connection settings got messed up due to an update or software, this command restores them to default:

netsh winsock reset

3. Releasing and renewing your IP address

Asks the router for a new "identity" for your computer:

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
💡 How do you run these commands?
  1. Click Start and type CMD.
  2. Right-click and choose "Run as Administrator".
  3. Copy the commands one at a time and press Enter after each one.
  4. Important: once done, restart your computer.
