Nothing is more frustrating than waiting 10 seconds every time you open an email. Before blaming the computer, here are a few things you can try yourself.
1. Shrink the data file (PST/OST)
A mailbox loaded with tens of thousands of messages slows the software down. Use the Archive option to move old emails to a separate folder.
2. Disable unnecessary Add-ins
Many programs install add-ins inside Outlook. If you don't use them, they only slow down the app's startup.
3. Turn off Cached Exchange Mode
If your computer is fast and the internet is stable, it can sometimes help to let Outlook work directly against the server instead of keeping a huge local copy.
4. Repair the data file (ScanPST)
Sometimes the data file gets corrupted. Use Microsoft's built-in repair tool to scan and fix errors in the data file.
🛠️ When Is It Time to Call Ornet IT?
If you've tried everything and email is still "stuck," the problem is probably deeper:
Faulty DNS settings on the mail server.
Overloaded computer memory resources (RAM).
Corrupted sync with Microsoft 365 cloud.
Pro tip: Always make sure your Windows is up to date. System updates often include critical performance fixes for the Office suite.
