Safe Browsing on Public Wi-Fi Networks

A coffee shop, an airport, a hotel — we all connect to free Wi-Fi. But did you know it's very easy to "eavesdrop" on your traffic over open networks? Here's how to protect yourself:

The danger: Hackers can set up a fake network named "Hotel_Guest_Free" and steal your login details the moment you connect.

Five rules for browsing on the go:

  • Don't make purchases: Never enter credit card details or log into your bank on a public network.
  • Use a VPN: A VPN tool creates a "secure tunnel," encrypted over the compromised network.
  • Prefer a hotspot: If you must work, it's better to open a hotspot from your own personal cellular device.
  • Check for HTTPS: Make sure a small lock icon always appears next to the website address in your browser.
