Speed Up Your Computer: The Performance Guide

Before you run out to buy a new computer, let's restore your system's original speed with a few simple actions and shortcuts.

🪥 Cleaning Temporary Files & Junk (System Clean)

Open the quick disk cleanup tool:Win+Rcleanmgr
Delete the Temp folder (temporary files):Win+R%temp%
Clear the installation cache (Prefetch):Win+Rprefetch
Open smart storage settings (Storage Sense):Search the Start menu

⚡ App & Resource Management (Task Management)

Open Task Manager (straight to the Performance tab):Ctrl+Shift+Esc
Disable software that launches at startup:Inside Task Manager
Close a process that's freezing your computer:Right-click ➞ End Task
Switch to maximum performance mode (Power Mode):Battery / power settings

🩺 Checking & Fixing System Errors

Scan and repair corrupted system files (in CMD):sfc /scannow
Check hard drive health (Chkdsk):chkdsk /f
Update all software on your computer with one command:winget upgrade --all
🔥 Technician's tip: Computer running slowly after long hours? Do a Restart, not a "Shutdown". On Windows 11/10 a regular shutdown doesn't fully clear memory - only a restart fully refreshes the CPU.
